41-year-old Pedestrian dies days after being hit by vehicle in Canton; Alcohol suspected in crash

A 41-year-old Massillon resident died Friday night after being struck by a vehicle while walking across a city street.

Calvin Scott died at a hospital on Sunday as a result of his injuries, Canton police said in a statement released Monday afternoon.

Scott was attempting to cross Harmont Avenue NE when he was struck by a motorist heading north in a 2022 Ford Escape, according to police.

According to the statement, officers responded to the collision in the 3400 block of Harmont around 9:25 p.m. on Friday.

The Escape’s driver was not wounded, and authorities believe he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol prior to the incident. A toxicology test revealed that Scott had ingested alcohol before to the crash, according to authorities.

Police officers from the Canton Metro Crash Team are still investigating what caused the deadly crash, according to the statement.
