Trader Joe’s Expands with 21 New Locations; Five Coming to California

Is there not a supermarket in your area that could be converted into a brightly illuminated tiki bar? In the upcoming year, that can alter.

The “Opening Soon” section of Trader Joe’s website claims that the firm now plans to open 21 new shops in a dozen states as well as Washington, D.C.

Although a Trader Joe’s official previously told Nexstar that at least ten of the stores should be open by the end of 2025, the company is unable to confirm when each location will open.

According to the Trader Joe’s website, the following areas will see the opening of its upcoming stores:

The Trader Joe’s “Announcements” page, located under the “Store Openings” header, contains limited details about a few of the planned locations.

In a recent episode of the “Inside Trader Joe’s” podcast, marketing executives Tara Miller and Matt Sloan of Trader Joe’s discussed how the company looks for areas that satisfy certain requirements for parking availability, traffic patterns, and population density, among other factors, when choosing a site for a new store.

The two further underlined that Trader Joe’s is extremely careful about its “controlled growth” and would even refrain from relocating into areas that were previously occupied by chain grocery shops since it wouldn’t “feel” like a Trader Joe’s.

According to Miller and Sloan, petitions or letter-writing campaigns to open a Trader Joe’s in a particular location would typically be ignored.

“Our decisions, they’re business decisions. We’re excited when people are excited about us, but that’s really not what’s driving the decisions about what brings a Trader Joe’s,” Miller stated.
