A multi-vehicle crash occurred after a deputy in southern Wisconsin barely averted a head-on collision with a truck that was passing traffic in a no-passing zone.
On Tuesday, May 6, at around 5:20 p.m., a Walworth County Sheriff’s Office deputy was traveling east on Highway 50 in Delavan when he noticed a truck approaching him directly in the eastbound lane.
According to reports, the truck was attempting to pass other westbound cars in a designated no-passing area.
The truck sideswiped the deputy as he attempted to avoid the head-on collision. The truck proceeded, sideswiping another eastbound car before colliding head-on with a third, according to the announcement.
All of the vehicles, including the deputy’s squad car, which came to a stop on the highway with “extensive damage,” stayed at the scene and were rendered unusable due to the collision.
According to reports, a bystander who saw the collision pulled over and assisted the officer in leaving his squad. He was subsequently informed that additional onlookers had pulled over to assist the truck’s imprisoned driver.
The deputy responded right away to assist the truck driver, who was in need of medical care.
To treat the other injured drivers, law officers from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office and the City and Town of Delavan Police Departments were on the site. All of the injuries were deemed to be non-life-threatening.
No other information was given.
