Utah storm brings back winter chill with snow and freezing temperature

Spring and summer were enjoyable while they lasted, right? A fresh storm will bring “winter” back to Utah, creating concern among some who had already stored their sweaters and scarves for the season.

Starting Thursday morning, temperatures will plummet across Utah. The National Weather Service headquarters in Salt Lake City predicts a 20-25 degree drop from Wednesday’s temperatures.

Temperatures in Utah valleys will be in the freezing range on Friday and Saturday early.

The storm will bring snow to mountain areas as it moves in on Thursday and continues into Friday. The greatest snowfall is expected in the southern Utah highlands Thursday evening. Up to five inches of snow are expected in the southern mountains, with up to 12 inches likely in locations near Boulder Mountain.

Snow will fall at higher levels in the northern mountains beginning Thursday morning and decreasing to 4,000-5,000 feet by afternoon.

The storm should pass through the area by late Friday, resulting in a pleasant weekend with somewhat milder temperatures and clear sky.
