Alabama Recruit Turns Down $750K NIL Deal to Stay In-State

According to his trainer on Friday, Cameron Pritchett, one of Alabama’s top high school football recruits, turned down a $750,000 name, image, and likeness deal that would have forced the sophomore to transfer out of state.

The 6-foot-3 edge rusher, who has made a name for himself as a standout member of the 2027 recruiting class, will remain at Thompson High School in Alabaster.

Since July 2021, NIL money has transformed the recruiting scene by enabling donor-backed collectives to negotiate profitable contracts for collegiate athletes nationwide.

Additionally, almost 40 states have made it possible for high school players to sign NIL contracts, partly to help in-state colleges attract top recruits. There aren’t any in Alabama.

Pritchett’s trainer, Isaac Hadac, verified his decision, which was initially reported by 5 Star Football Recruiting. Hadac stated that his faith led him to make this choice.

“He believes that by the grace of God, he’s going to go far in the game of football, and all of the material things will come down the road,” Hadac stated. “It means a lot to him to be able to stay and use his faith in the process to help him make that decision.”

It’s not the first time a Thompson player has declined a big contract. According to reports, in 2024, quarterback Trent Seaborn turned down a seven-figure NIL offer from a trading card firm. According to Hadac, coach Mark Freeman deserves praise for those choices.

“Coach Freeman is a legacy coach. He wants to leave a legacy with Thompson. Seaborn turned down a major NIL deal himself. These kids know that if they buy into the process, all of these things will come one way or another,” Hadac stated.

Pritchett concluded the previous season with 14 games played, 78 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks. Several programs, including Ohio State, the national champion, have expressed interest.

Pritchett has time to decide what to do. He is concentrating on leaving a lasting impression at Thompson High in the meanwhile.

“First of all, I am so blessed and grateful to even be considered in that way. It’s really an honor and privilege that I do not take lightly or for granted,” he stated 5 Star Football Recruiting. “Having said that, I truly believe that God has a plan for my career and for my life as long as I allow Him to guide my path. It’s important to me that my legacy is built on integrity, hard work, passion, and faith. I want to do that at Thompson.”
