As a result of winning a lottery prize worth one million dollars, a man from California stated that he “can’t wait to get off the streets.”
According to KSBY-TV, the happy winner purchased the winning scratch-off ticket from the manager of Sandy’s Deli-Liquor in San Luis Obispo on this past Sunday, April 6th.
According to Wilson Samaan, the manager of the store, the winner is a client who has been coming in for a long time also being homeless.
“He came to the store, he scratched it and is like, ‘Oh, my god. Is that real?’ ” Wilson stated.
In spite of the fact that he had double checked the victory, Wilson stated that the individual was still taken aback by the amount of money that he had won.
“He’s like, ‘$100,000’ and I’m like, ‘No, bro. That’s $1 million. Congrats brother,'” the manager remembers.
According to Samaan, the individual also purchased a few lesser tickets in addition to two $5 Triple Red 777 scratchers for a total of $25.
After that, the store manager assisted the fortunate lottery winner, who did not possess a vehicle, by driving him to Fresno in order to authenticate his ticket with the California Lottery at their headquarters.
“He tried to mail it,” Samaan stated. “I told him, I’ll help you out. I offered him a bus ticket or for me to drive him. I didn’t want a million dollars to get lost in the mail.”
Local retailer Thrifty Beaches shared a video of the thrilled lottery winner on Instagram, saying he “just can’t wait to get off the streets.”
Verification of the prize might take weeks or months, according to a California lottery official.
“With a million-dollar ticket like this, the person who comes forward can expect a very thorough vetting process,” Carolyn Becker said. She went on to say, “We process over 10,000 winning claims a month, so that’s part of why it takes a little bit of time.”
A lottery representative stated that as the procedure has not been finished, they are unable to provide any more details regarding the claim.
The lottery states that there is a 1 in 2,047,423 chance of winning $1 million on a Triple Red 777 scratcher.
