Delivery driver killed in industrial accident at Delta cargo lot in Salt Lake City

The Salt Lake City Police Department’s detectives are looking into a fatal industrial event that occurred at a Delta Cargo parking lot and claimed one man’s life.

A box truck transporting goods to the Delta Cargo facility was backing out when the driver of another delivery vehicle walked behind him and was hit, according to Salt Lake City Police Department Detective Michael Ruff, who spoke to ABC4.com.

SLCPD Airport Division officers arrived on the site and provided emergency first aid. Nevertheless, the individual passed away at the scene in spite of attempts to save his life.

“We’re investigating this as an industrial accident rather than a traffic accident,” said Ruff. “So our investigators will be wrapping up here shortly and then the investigation will be turned over to OSHA for them to look into.”

Although the victim’s identity has not been made public, Det. Ruff stated that they did not work for Delta. The individual was a delivery driver for another company, a Delta representative told ABC4.

In a statement, the Delta representative said, “We are saddened by this tragic accident and will cooperate with any investigations.” “We’ll decline any further comment at this time out of respect for the individual, his family, and the investigation process.”

As of Wednesday morning at 9 a.m., Delta announced that its cargo operations in Salt Lake City were shut down. There was no effect on the company’s airplane services for passengers at Salt Lake International Airport.

The incident is still under investigation.
