According to Harrison County Sheriff Matt Haley, two individuals have been taken into custody for allegedly tying up a couple from Gulfport and striking a man with a machete during a home invasion in March.
Since March 31, police have been looking into the robbery. They claim that two attackers showed up in the 12000 block of Cypress Bayou Drive in Gulfport at around 6 a.m., restrained a man and his fiancée with zip ties, and took cash, jewelry, and the victim’s black 2018 Dodge Charger.
Octavia Jermaine Winters, 41, and Daniel James Brown, 31, were taken into custody and are accused of robbery. According to officials, Winters is also charged with aggravated assault, motor vehicle theft, and burglary.
Winters was taken into custody on April 3 after investigators allegedly discovered a cell phone that one of the suspects had left at the residence. Brown is charged with being present at the scene of the robbery and was taken into custody on May 1.
According to officials, the couple drove to a hospital after removing the zip ties. The individual who was struck by the machete was in stable condition, according to deputies in March. Afterwards, the Dodge Charger was discovered on Dedeaux Road.
Winters and Brown are being held at the Harrison County jail on $625,000 and $500,000 bail, respectively.
