A 23-year-old man has been detained and charged with intoxication manslaughter in connection with a March motorbike crash on the Spaghetti Bowl that killed his female companion, according to El Paso police.
On Thursday, May 8, police said they detained Nathan Verdugo of Las Cruces in connection with a crash that killed 20-year-old Isabella Rose Mendez, also of Las Cruces.
He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a $150,000 bond, according to authorities.
On March 3, at 12:30 a.m., Verdugo crashed his motorcycle near Central El Paso’s Spaghetti Bowl.
According to police, he was driving at high speeds on U.S. 54 southbound.
As he entered the ramp from U.S. 54 to Interstate 10 West, he collided with a barrier, ejecting his companion off the motorcycle. Verdugo was taken to a local hospital and treated for serious injuries.
His passenger, Mendez, perished at the scene, according to authorities.
On April 29, the El Paso Police Department’s Special Traffic Investigations Unit concluded their investigation into the crash. A warrant was issued for Verdugo, who was apprehended this week, according to authorities.
