The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which was originally known as Food Stamps, provides assistance to families and individuals with low incomes so that they can purchase nutritious food.
In the state of Texas, the Health and Human Services Commission is in charge of providing this assistance.
A card known as the Lone Star Card, which functions similarly to a debit card, is used to distribute the money to the recipients on a monthly basis.
There are a variety of fundamental items that may be purchased with it, including fruits, vegetables, proteins, fats, and carbohydrates.
It is not possible to use it to purchase alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, hot food, or to pay bills.
Those who are currently without jobs, households with low incomes, and specific groups of persons with special needs may be eligible.
An individual who is living alone and has a monthly income of less than $2,005 is eligible for assistance, for instance.
An income of up to $4,832 is permitted for a family of five, and a further $707 is permitted for each additional member of the family.
Households with low incomes and individuals who are currently without jobs may be eligible to participate in the initiative.
Those adults who are between the ages of 18 and 52 who do not have children are subject to certain regulations, such as being required to look for job or train. Nevertheless, pregnant women and individuals with impairments are exempt from the application of these laws.
With the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), more families will be able to put food on their tables on a daily basis.
