When the driver collided with a dump truck Friday morning, a high-speed police pursuit of a suspect in grand theft in the Los Angeles County region took a tragic turn.
It all started when Ventura County sheriff’s deputies received a call about grand theft at the Target store on Ventura Boulevard in Camarillo at around ten in the morning. He was charged with stealing over $950 worth of goods.
Deputies noticed the suspect fleeing the area when they got there. The suspect fled and started the chase after they tried to stop him.
The theft suspect entered the 118 Freeway eastbound through Simi Valley after travelling south on the 101 Freeway through Camarillo and Thousand Oaks.
After reaching triple digits, the suspect proceeded to the Chatsworth and Granada Hills neighbourhoods, swerving in and out of the carpool lane. The SUV once reached a speed of 118 mph.
The suspect was in the Tujunga neighbourhood on the 210 Freeway by 11 a.m.
Shortly after, the SUV struck an orange dump truck going on the 210 Freeway close to Pasadena’s exit 19.
Then, when multiple CHP police cars got closer to the SUV, it turned onto the right shoulder.
CHP officers were observed giving the suspect cardiopulmonary resuscitation. He passed away right there.
No one knew who he was.
All lanes on the 210 Freeway have reopened after being blocked for many hours.
