Moriah Infinjer, 28, of Farmington, was shot by a New Hampshire State Police trooper early Sunday morning after a 100-mph pursuit on the Spaulding Turnpike (Route 16), authorities said.
She remained in the hospital Sunday afternoon with non-life-threatening injuries, according to New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella. He stated no law enforcement officers were physically injured. There were no people in Infinjer’s car.
According to Formella, police attempted to stop Infinjer as he drove southbound on Route 16 near the Dover-Rochester border at 1:30 a.m. She did not stop and sped away, prompting the police pursuit, he added. According to Formella, State Police officers deployed a spike strip, causing the car to stop.
“During the subsequent encounter with a trooper after the car was stopped, that trooper used deadly force and fired his weapon,” the attorney general’s press release reads. Infinjer was struck by gunshots.
The New Hampshire State Police have charged Infinjer with “various offences” in relation to the police chase of her vehicle.
State police charged her with reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, a crime, as well as misdemeanours such as disobeying a police officer, refusing arrest or detention, and criminal threatening. She was also charged with reckless operation, which is a violation level offence.
According to Formella, the name of the officer engaged in the event will be suppressed until the conclusion of an investigation, which is expected next week.
