Multiple cars set ablaze in Lafayette; 2 in Custody after found hiding nearby

Two Lafayette residents are in jail following an early morning automobile fire on the city’s north end.

Lafayette police received a complaint of an active fire at JR Towing and Recovery, located at 1414 Canal Road, about 5:47 a.m. on Monday, according to Sgt. Shawn Verma. When police arrived, they discovered many automobiles fully engulfed in flames.

Verma said cops heard noises coming from a nearby tree line and discovered 45-year-old April Quesada laying on the ground, attempting to hide.

Police discovered a revolver on Quesada, who was unable to give confirmation that it belonged to her, as well as drug paraphernalia, Verma stated.

Shortly after Quesada was arrested, Verma claimed police discovered 42-year-old Randy Bush nearby.

Verma stated that Quesada and Bush are being probed as suspects in the Monday morning arson but have not been formally charged.

Quesada was booked into the Tippecanoe County Jail on preliminary charges of illegal entry into a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a weapon, theft of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia.

Bush was hauled into jail on preliminary allegations of methamphetamine possession and theft.
