In an attempt to unseat troubled New York State Attorney General Letitia James in a rematch next year, Republican Michael Henry announced he is raising the required finances.
More than 1,200 New Yorkers who qualify for matching donations are among the 6,000 contributors who have contributed to Henry, who made a strong run against the incumbent Democrat in 2022.
The commercial litigator, who lost to James three years ago despite receiving an unexpected 45% of the vote, promised that this time would be different.
“Together, we will bring balance back to New York. It’s time to fight for every New Yorker — and it’s time for Tish James to go,” Henry stated.
Candidates from throughout the state will be eligible for 6 to 1 public matching money for the first time in the upcoming election. A donation of $25 creates $175 under the public financing model, while a donation of $100 counts as $700.
James, according to Henry, has operated a partisan enterprise.
“The attorney general’s office belongs to the people — not political operatives,” he declared.
In addition to pursuing President Trump’s commercial empire, James has gained notoriety for commissioning an investigative investigation that found former Governor Andrew Cuomo had harassed numerous women, leading to his resignation.
Nevertheless, Trump was elected to a second term, and Cuomo, who refuted the allegations of wrongdoing, is currently leading the Democratic field in a resurgent bid for mayor of New York City.
Henry claimed she has some explaining to do, and James is now playing defense, avoiding shocking charges of mortgage fraud.
The New York State Unified Court System’s Committee on Professional Standards, which is in charge of disciplinary actions for state-licensed attorneys, received a complaint against James on Monday on the allegations from the Trump-affiliated America First Legal watchdog.
The five-page letter from the organization reiterates the accusations made in a letter to the Justice Department earlier this month by Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director William Pulte, requesting a federal criminal investigation into James.

According to Pulte, James seemed to have “falsified records” in order to secure advantageous house loans for her Brooklyn apartment and a Virginia property.

However, her attorney, Abbe David Lowell, claimed that the incident was only a clerical error and charged Pulte with omitting some details to support his claims.
In a scathing letter to US Attorney General Pam Bondi last week, Lowell said that the charges were merely a baseless attack in Trump’s “revenge tour” against the prosecutor.
