SUV on Rims leads Police on Fiery Pursuit near LAX, 1 in Custody

At least one person has been arrested following a blazing, spark-filled pursuit Wednesday night that lit up the motorways near Los Angeles International Airport and resulted in at least three or four additional suspects fleeing in the vehicle.

It’s unknown when the South Gate Police Department launched the pursuit, but authorities turned it over to CHP just before 11 p.m.

The suspects were apparently wanted for flashing a firearm, with preliminary and unsubstantiated reports indicating that at least two handguns and a rifle were inside the vehicle.

Sky5 was above the chase as the car approached the LAX horseshoe and CHP tried an unsuccessful PIT manoeuvre, with the suspect vehicle countering by entering a parking garage where the weapons were reportedly thrown out of the white SUV.

When the car resurfaced, the rear bumper was dragging, and sparks were observed streaming from the right front tyre, which ultimately dissipated, leaving the SUV with three wheels and rim.

The driver eventually pulled over between Gorman Avenue and East 115th Street, with suspects pouring out of the vehicle and escaping on foot.

The guy behind the wheel of the car was quickly apprehended by CHP officers with pistols drawn. He surrendered and was brought into custody.

A law enforcement cordon was being established up in the area to seek for the remaining suspects when Sky5 was forced to flee the location.
