On Friday at 4:14 a.m., the NWS Wilmington NC issued a weather notice for heavy thunderstorms lasting until 5:15 a.m. The alert applies to Coastal New Hanover, Inland Brunswick, and Coastal Brunswick.
Residents should expect wind gusts up to 40 mph.
“At 4:13 a.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm over Seaside, or over Sunset Beach, moving east at 35 mph,” according to the National Hurricane Centre. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.”
The alert affects the following locations: Civie Town, South Masonboro Island, Southport, Supply, Snows Cut, Brunswick County Community College Main Campus, Seaside, Bald Head Island, Ocean Crest Pier, Varnamtown, Brunswick Novant Medical Centre, Sunset Beach, Caswell Beach, Carolina Beach, St. James, Boiling Spring Lakes, Grissettown, Oak Island, Holden Beach, and Dosher Memorial Hospital.
According to the NWS, “If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.”
This notice remains in effect until 5:15 a.m.
